Since 1951: 60 years rooted in nature and community
Surprise Lake Camp has been nestled on a small exclusive lot on Sang Lake just outside of Edson, Alberta since 1951. After 60 years, it is still true to its original ideals: teaching campers about nature and how to care for the Earth and each other through the Spirit.
In Celebration of this momentous occasion, all were welcome to Surprise Lake Camp for our official Anniversary Event on Saturday, June 4. We held our Open House which lead into a beautiful spaghetti Banquet Dinner and Silent Auction, ending the party at campfire! It is with many thanks, heartfelt departures and sharing of memories that we find inspiration for years to come. For those who missed the weekend excitement, please do not hesitate to stop in this summer and say hi. We love to meet past campers and alumni. Join us for campfire and teach your favourite song! For more information call the camp 780-723-2159 or email surpriselakecampAB@gmail.com |
Memories of Surprise Lake Camp!
Regardless of whether you are attending this fabulous weekend in whole, part or not at all; if you have stories, photos, videos, keepsakes etc. to share, please bring them or send them our way! We are collecting as many SLC memories and names as we can for a database and memorial! There will be a table for sharing, staring and reminiscing up all weekend. We are especially looking for EARLY SLC (1951-1971) and RECENT SLC (1998-2005) photos and history. We're also curious if anyone can remember (and teach) the tune of the Surprise Lake Camp song from 'back in the day'.
ANYTHING you can contribute would be especially welcome including your favourite memories, as we create a time capsule/memory book and enhance the written history of SLC.
