                                  Camp Manager - April Keighan

                                  We'd like to welcome April back for a third consecutive summer!!! Since joining the SLC family back in 2006, April has dedicated her summers to our camp and helps ensure our campers have a summer to remember!



                                  Program Manager/Waterfront -Position available

                                  WE HAVE NEWLY COMBINED OUR WATERFRONT AND PROGRAM MANAGER POSITIONS INTO ONE!

                                  Our Program Manager is directly involved with the fine tuning and implementing of the Waterfront Programs as well as assisting other session leaders in planning their programs. Organizational skills are a must. As Program Manager you are under the direct guidance of the Camp Manager. The Program Manager must have a positive attitude and provide educational leadership. Strong communication skills are essential for providing leadership to your Counselors and Campers. Some experience in Christian Development, Safety, Sports, Wilderness Education or Leadership will be considered an asset.  Everyone is responsible for making the summer enjoyable, while educational, for those who come to Surprise Lake Camp.

                                  The following are criteria for application:
                                  ~ Must be 21 years of age or older.
                                  ~ Minimum two years experience working with children aged 6 & up.
                                  ~ Previous experience in planning and organizing children’s activities.
                                  ~ Experience with overnight children’s camp.
                                  ~ Experience in Leadership.
                                  ~ Ability to work in a team environment.
                                  ~ Organizational skills are a must.
                                  ~ Have current First Aid Certification with level B CPR.
                                  ~ Be able to obtain a Level 2 Criminal Record Check (with a vulnerable sector search) and Child Intervention Check.
                                  ~ Be able to follow Society Policies/ Procedures and Alberta Camping Regulations.
                                  ~ Knowledge and experience in planning programming in United Church Background would be an asset. Preference may be given to applicants with United Church background.
                                  ~ Previous SurpriseLake Camp experience would be an asset.
                                  ~ A vehicle and class 5 license would be an asset.

                                  Waterfront - Position Available

                                  The Waterfront Leader is directly involved with planning, supervising and leading the daily swim and canoe outings. 
                                  As the Waterfront Leader you must attend the mud walk and any other activities involving water.  You are also responsible for any medical emergencies that occur at the water front area or on mud walk, canoe trips, etc (anything involving water). 
                                  Everyone is responsible to make the summer enjoyable while educational for the campers who come to Surprise Lake. Everyone should have a positive attitude and provide educational leadership.

                                  The following are criteria for application:
                                  ~ Must be 18 years of age or older.
                                  ~ Must have National Lifeguard Service Certification (NLS).
                                  ~ Basic Knowledge of canoeing is mandatory. Paddle Canada/Alberta Certification would be an asset.
                                  ~ Have current First Aid Certification with Level B CPR.
                                  ~ Be able to obtain a Level 2 Criminal Record Check (with a vulnerable sector search) and Child Intervention Check.

                                  Cook - Position Available

                                  As the Cook you are directly involved with the planning, preparing and serving of a well balanced menu.  You are under the supervision of the Camp Manager, but also must follow the Board of Directors’ decisions regarding the Kitchen. Strong communication skills, time management skills, and cooperative attitude are essential for this position.  Experience in cooking, baking and any culinary background will be necessary. Everyone is responsible for making the summer enjoyable while educational for all who come to Surprise Lake.  Everyone should have a positive attitude and provide educational leadership.
                                   
                                  Surprise Lake Camp is affiliated with the United Church of Canada, which offers a spiritual element the summer program. We encourage people of ny spiritual/religious background to come the job. It enriches, adds diversity and helps broaden the minds of campers each summer. Surprise LakeSociety would like summer camp experience to be the best that it can be while being educational and fun for everyone.

                                  The following are criteria for application:
                                  ~ Must be over the age of 19.
                                  ~ Food Safe Certification or equivalent - subsidy is available to take course prior to start.
                                  ~ Experience and knowledge in planning a well balanced menu for a large group.
                                  ~ Knowledge in ordering food.
                                  ~ Experience cooking for large groups.
                                  ~ Organizational skills are a must.
                                  ~ Experience in Leadership.
                                  ~ Ability to delegate.
                                  ~ Ability to work in a team environment.
                                  ~ Be able to follow Society Policies and Procedures and Alberta Camping Regulations.
                                  ~ Be able to obtain a Level 2 Criminal Record Check (with a vulnerable sector search) and Child Intervention Check.
                                  ~ Have current First Aid Certification with level B CPR.
                                  ~ Previous SurpriseLake Camp experience would an asset.

                                  Senior Counsellors - Position available - 1

                                  As a Senior Counselor you are responsible for a cabin of campers and any junior counselors assigned to you. You are under the direct supervision of the Camp Manager. Strong communication skills are essential for a smooth summer. Senior Counselors are responsible for working with Junior Counselors in leading the campers through the daily programs.  Everyone is responsible for making the summer enjoyable while educational for all who come to Surprise Lake.  Everyone should have a positive attitude and provide educational leadership. Up to 3 positions available including one counsellor also performing the duties of the Outdoor Education Leader.

                                  The following are criteria for application: 
                                  ~ Must be 18 years of age or older.
                                  ~ Have current First Aid Certification with Level B CPR.
                                  ~ Be able to obtain a Level 2 Criminal Record Check (with a vulnerable sector  search) and Child Intervention Check.
                                  ~ Be able to follow society policies/procedures and Alberta Camping regulations.
                                  ~ Minimum two years experience working with children aged 6 & up.
                                  ~ Experience with overnight children’s camp.
                                  ~ Experience in leadership.
                                  ~ Knowledge and experience in this role.
                                  ~ Must be enthusiastic, energetic, patient and understanding.
                                  ~ Must be able to take initiative and lead a large group.
                                  ~ Ability to work in a team environment.
                                  ~ Previous SurpriseLake Camp experience would an asset.
                                  ~ A vehicle and class 5 license would be an asset.
                                  ~ Ability to play a musical instrument (guitar, drums, etc) would be an asset.

                                  Outdoor Education Counsellor- Position Available

                                  As an Outdoor Education Leader you are responsible for all outdoor activities that happen during the summer at Surprise Lake Camp. You are to work with the Program Director under the supervision of the Camp Manager.  Strong communication skills are essential for providing leadership to other Counselors, Junior Counselors, Counselors in Training and Volunteers. You will be in charge of preparing, organizing and implementing all recreation activities for each day (hiking, sports, games, survival, wilderness training, etc).  Everyone is responsible for making the summer enjoyable while educational for all who come to Surprise Lake. Everyone should have a positive attitude and provide educational
                                  leadership.

                                  The criteria for application are similar to those for the Senior Counsellor positions. Knowledge of indoor and outdoor recreation activities and sports will be an asset as well as experience with cadets or wilderness knowledge.
