Volunteering at Surprise Lake Camp
Fact: Volunteers are a crucial element to a wonderful summer.
It's True: Volunteers come in all shapes and sizes and hold a great variety of talents. Some volunteers are young, still camper age, simply excited to help out whenever where-ever they may be of use. Some are parents who want to attend camp with their children, ending up in the kitchen preparing snacks and meals or perhaps chopping fire wood with our CITs and other heavy duty tasks. Some are camp alumni who cannot stay away from the camp years after they have attended and been on staff.
Therefore: Volunteers are always welcome and appreciated - especially YOU!
DID YOU KNOW!? the reason SLC's motto is "For the Campers - By the Campers" is because the camp has been built and maintained by the very campers who attend(ed)! Show your appreciation, care and love for Surprise Lake Camp and help us out as a volunteer! We want to see your "finger-prints" on SLC!

When?May 18-21, 2012 is our traditional camp open work weekend. We invite all interested parties to join us on the Victoria Day long weekend for fellowship, camp fun and of course, preparing the site for renters and summer campers. If you have a trade - electrical, welding, plumbing, carpentry etc. - please let us know so we can put you where you will be the most effective!
July-August is time for Summer Camp. We love having parents and previous campers join us when they have time to spare. We provide meals and accomodation when you are volunteering. We also encourage lay and clergy church members to come as chaplains during camps. |
How To:ALL volunteers planning on coming to help during a camp session must attend a minimum of 2 days training prior to your desired time at camp. This training may be arranged in advance with the Camp Manager, most likely to be combined with staff training at the beginning of the summer.
In addition to training, any persons (visitors as well) planning on interacting with campers in any way must submit a current (within 6 months) Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search included. For more information on how to volunteer and requesting dates, contact the Camp Manager before June 1st to coordinate training and volunteer opportunities. Application Form
